Lung Cancer: 6 Everyday Objects That Harm Your Health
Breast cancer is undoubtedly one of the most serious diseases. Its causes can be multiple: immune system abnormalities, genetic factors, and even our everyday environment, which can play a crucial role. Heavy metals, radiation, and various carcinogens can infiltrate our bodies, causing cell mutations and facilitating the development of breast cancer.
We often think that closing the door and washing our hands is enough, but our own homes can be full of carcinogens. Let’s discover six everyday objects that contain harmful substances and from which it’s important to protect ourselves.
Dry cleaning
Clothes that are difficult to clean are often sent to the dry cleaner. However, this type of cleaning uses petroleum-derived substances, such as benzene and ethylbenzene, which are harmful to health.
Perchloroethylene, the main substance used, is a known carcinogen. Prolonged exposure increases the risk of esophageal, uterine, and bladder cancer. Inhaling these compounds can cause symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, memory impairment, and skin rashes.
Remember to immediately remove the plastic from dry-cleaned garments and let them air dry for 3 or 4 hours before storing them in your closet.
Cash register receipts
Cash receipts, printed on thermal paper, contain chemicals such as bisphenol A (BPA), a known endocrine disruptor.
Long-term exposure to BPA can cause hormonal changes, precocious puberty, birth defects, and is associated with uterine and breast cancer, as well as diabetes and obesity. Review your receipts carefully. Save the unprinted portion and avoid keeping them in your pockets or purse.

Hairbrushes
Hairbrushes can contain bacteria in surprising amounts.
These bacteria can cause itching, dandruff, folliculitis, and even contribute to hair loss. Wash your brush or comb in warm, soapy water for at least 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with a toothbrush. Afterward, let it dry completely in the sun.
Remote controls
Television remote controls are a major source of bacteria. A study published in the Journal of Infection Prevention revealed that they harbor bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, pneumococcus, and Enterococcus faecalis, which can cause skin infections, pneumonia, abdominal pain, and urinary tract infections.
Hotel room remote controls are particularly contaminated. Clean them before use, and regularly clean your living room remote controls with an alcohol-dampened wipe or cloth.
Although our homes are full of potential sources of harmful bacteria, a little vigilance and simple cleaning habits can significantly reduce the risks. Maintaining a healthy environment also contributes to your well-being.
