Here’s a hearty and comforting recipe for American Goulash — a classic, easy-to-make one-pot meal combining ground beef, pasta, and a savory tomato sauce.


American Goulash

This simple and satisfying dish is a favorite family dinner, packed with tender pasta, flavorful beef, and a rich tomato base.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 can (14.5 oz / 411g) diced tomatoes

  • 1 can (8 oz / 227g) tomato sauce

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni (or any small pasta)

  • 2 cups beef broth or water

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

  • Fresh parsley or basil, chopped (for garnish)


Instructions


1. Cook the Beef

  • In a large skillet or pot over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no longer pink.

  • Drain excess fat.

2. Add Aromatics

  • Add chopped onion and garlic to the beef. Sauté until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.

3. Combine Ingredients

  • Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper.

  • Bring to a simmer.

4. Add Pasta and Cook

  • Add the elbow macaroni to the simmering sauce.

  • Cover and cook for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender and most liquid is absorbed.

5. Finish and Serve

  • If using, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top and let it melt before serving.

  • Garnish with fresh parsley or basil.


Tips

  • For extra veggies, add chopped bell peppers or mushrooms with the onions.

  • Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.

  • Serve with garlic bread or a simple side salad.
