Here’s a hearty and comforting recipe for American Goulash — a classic, easy-to-make one-pot meal combining ground beef, pasta, and a savory tomato sauce.
American Goulash
This simple and satisfying dish is a favorite family dinner, packed with tender pasta, flavorful beef, and a rich tomato base.
Ingredients
1 lb (450g) ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14.5 oz / 411g) diced tomatoes
1 can (8 oz / 227g) tomato sauce
2 cups elbow macaroni (or any small pasta)
2 cups beef broth or water
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon paprika
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Fresh parsley or basil, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
1. Cook the Beef
In a large skillet or pot over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no longer pink.
Drain excess fat.
2. Add Aromatics
Add chopped onion and garlic to the beef. Sauté until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
3. Combine Ingredients
Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Bring to a simmer.
4. Add Pasta and Cook
Add the elbow macaroni to the simmering sauce.
Cover and cook for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender and most liquid is absorbed.
5. Finish and Serve
If using, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top and let it melt before serving.
Garnish with fresh parsley or basil.
Tips
For extra veggies, add chopped bell peppers or mushrooms with the onions.
Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
Serve with garlic bread or a simple side salad.
