This product makes clothes ten times whiter: it is still used in dry cleaners.

This product makes clothes ten times whiter.

A white t-shirt that's yellowing, pillowcases that have lost their brightness, sheets that were once pristine but are now faded… Who hasn't sighed after taking clean, but visibly dirty, clothes out of the washing machine? Good news: there's a very simple trick, with common ingredients you already have in your kitchen, to restore your clothes to their original whiteness. And no, you don't need to use bleach!

Why are your white clothes turning yellow?

Before attempting to solve the problem, it's helpful to understand why it occurs. Yellowing of white clothes is a common phenomenon, often caused by:

  • Storing in a humid or poorly ventilated place  promotes oxidation of the fibers.
  • Sweat or sebum residues that accumulate in fabrics (especially in pillows, sheets, or clothing worn directly against the skin).
  • Cosmetic products (moisturizing creams, body oils, etc.) that come into contact with the fibers before being fully absorbed.
  • Inappropriate laundry detergents or those with incorrect dosage  , or even the excessive use of fabric softeners that leave a film that is difficult to remove.

And contrary to what one might think,   bleach is not always the best solution.

Should we use bleach?

It's tempting, but beware! While bleach may give an immediate "brightening" effect,   it weakens fabrics over time   and can even   accentuate yellowing   ! It's not recommended, especially for synthetic fibers like acrylic, and is only suitable for 100% natural textiles (cotton or linen).

Fortunately, there is a natural alternative: gentler, safer, and   completely effective  .

The magic duo: coarse salt + baking soda

This simple mixture is the best-kept secret of many   traditional laundries and homes  . Why does it work?

  • Coarse salt acts as a natural stain remover, while also revitalizing dull fibers.
  • On the other hand, baking soda neutralizes odors, absorbs moisture, and helps remove residue stuck to the fibers.
  • How to use it?

    It's a piece of cake:

    1. Prepare your mixture   : In a small bowl, mix two tablespoons of coarse salt with two tablespoons of baking soda.
    2. Pour this mixture directly   into the drum of your washing machine, along with your white clothes.
    3. Add your usual laundry detergent  and then run a normal cycle (at   40°C   or higher if the fabric allows).
    4. Repeat this process once or twice a month   to keep your clothes white.

    Result ?

Visibly whiter clothes,   without unpleasant odors or a rough texture  . And all this   without exceeding your usual budget  .

Small extra steps to keep your clothes bright

    • Always read the labels   : it prevents many mistakes.
    • Avoid plastic bags for storing clothes   : opt for cloth covers or cardboard boxes, which allow clothes to breathe.
    • Make sure your clothes are clean and completely dry   before storing them.
    • Let your creams or lotions fully penetrate   your skin before getting dressed, especially if you are wearing white clothes.
    • Limit the use of perfumed fabric softeners   : they leave residues that in the long term can dull the fibers.

    In summary

Sometimes, the most effective solutions are also the simplest. A mixture of   coarse salt and baking soda   is a foolproof home remedy, perfect for those who want to care for their clothes… without damaging them.

    The result? Naturally luminous whites.
